Chris Allard Night Prowler

For this Project, I used hdr merge to combine several nighttime shots from my dorm window, I then added several pictures from Nasa in order to give a "spacey" feel to it and create a scene of an astronaut on earth. I wanted to achieve a dreamlike presentation for the image, playing off the ideas of gazing out your window and looking at the stars to imagine what might be beyond.

  1. The project seems to give off many different vibes. This includes space, nightmarish feelings, and the brightness of the alleyway as well. The astronaut is seen as a mysterious figure rather than an explorer of space because of the lighting behind him. Because of that one light that isn’t working, it adds tension to the night image. The clouds surrounding the sky and the moon also give off some “werewolf” or “haunting” vibes to the image as well.
When first looking at this work, my main focus was on the light that goes across the road. It is hard to make out exactly what it is supposed to represent, but I have a feeling that it must be associated with the astronaut in the foreground of the image. The image entirely reminds me of the backrooms a little bit, where there are people in suits trying to discover the endless hallways or areas surrounding them. I also don’t see any other figure past the windows which also adds the tension to this image as well.
When looking at the clouds and the moon itself, the image feels as if you had a background and used two different mediums to create this specific night sky. I think that you can use that idea by possibly moving parts of the background slightly to give it a “movie set” background view. The way you could do that is working through perspective with the right side of the image and a little bit of the center right as well. You adjusted the lighting very well with the different night time images that you had there and gave off mysterious glow and shadows towards the astronaut. One thing that I think you could also do is brighten up a few of the windows so that we don’t see too much detail as to what is inside the buildings.
While your initial intention was to give a dreamlike impression, I think this not only works as one, but could also work better as a nightmare impression. Your moon photo was initially a lunar eclipse moon and I think that I would have liked to see more of the “blood” moon there than just a darker moon. If you also had time to, you could even change the color of the lights to a redder tone just like the blood moon you initially had. One way you could do that is by either going to camera raw or lightroom, and changing either the temperature, or tone of the light itself.
Overall, the night prowler project here still has an incredible amount of detail with the image entirely. When looking at the gif again, you were able to fix some light that felt that didn’t have to be there and gave a very good “tone” on the image for the viewer. The additional stars and sky were a great touch as well and I think that this image has a great amount of work put into it. Good Job.
