Fake It "Beyoncé is in the Illuminati?" - Emily Furr

Is this real? Beyoncé is in the Illuminati?

My idea started with conspiracy theories about celebrities being in cults or secret societies. After we reviewed my project on Wednesday I still kept that route but switched some things up. It was brought to my attention that in 2013, Beyoncé flashed a triangle symbol with her hands and everyone on the internet went crazy.  I found that her husband, Jay-Z, is the founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, which was founded in 2008 and uses the triangle symbol. I then scoured the internet for public-domain images of Beyoncé and found this one from a Berlin concert in 2009. I then crafted the image to make it seem as if there was a deliberate sign years earlier than the Super Bowl XLVII that Beyoncé was in the Illuminati.

I used a public domain picture, taken by GillyBerlin on Fliker  https://www.flickr.com/photos/92748110@N00/3513516659/, of Beyoncé performing at one of her concerts in Berlin in 2009. I used a picture of myself where it appears that I am taking a picture of Beyoncé while on stage. I used Generative AI to make the Illuminati triangle and eye, while I used the ellipses and triangle tools to make the symbol behind it.

  1. “Beyoncé is in the illuminati?” by Emily Furr is composed of imagery of Beyoncé performing on stage with two other performers, an image of a photographer on the left of the stage and Illuminati symbolism displayed on the big screen behind them. The focal point of this composition is the large triangle and eye with spikes behind them encompassed by a circle. While this is the focal point, it is the furthest point in the background, however it pops out against the bright white screen behind it. Beyoncé and the performers with her are the secondary focal point as they give more context to the purpose of this symbol being on the screen. The other elements such as people in the crowd, band and photographer become other supportive elements to this scene, providing further context of the event itself. Overall the image is fairly dark with the only light source coming from the large screen and stage lights.
Based on these combined elements, this work appears to be addressing the rumors surrounding Beyoncé’s alleged participation in the Illuminati. This scene appears to serve as proof that Beyoncé is a part of the organization and is using it to influence her fans and celebrity status. The triangle and eye combination tends to be recognized as associated with the Illuminati. Any artist that uses this symbolism becomes a target for rumors of their own association with the organization and is questioned by the public. In this case, this image would be taken as fact that the rumors surrounding Beyoncé and the Illuminati are true.
Starting with the display on the screen as it is the focal point giving us context to the meaning of the work, the triangle appears to be coming out of the screen a bit rather than being displayed on it. The display appears to be a bit clearer than the rest of the image; adding some grain to it as well as the added photographer would have placed them in the scene a bit more realistically. Matching the textures of the composited imagery would have made this image more believable, but I do think that the composition does address the assignment. Images such as this one would definitely have had an impact on the public perception of Beyoncé.
As mentioned before, the public would have taken this image as proof of Beyoncé’s connection to the Illuminati. Over the years there have been several instances that the public have taken as proof of this association between the two, as well as Beyoncé’s husband’s involvement as well. These instances include the two holding up what appears to be a triangle shape with their hands at performances and events. An image like this could have led to a deep dive of the internet into all the times Beyoncé “showed her allegiance” to the Illuminati, as well as other celebrities connected to her, her husband and his record label. The funny part is that in more recent years Beyoncé has addressed the rumors in a song with the lyrics “y’all haters corny with that Illuminati mess” so I could totally see her doing something like this at a performance to troll the internet and her haters.
Overall this composed moment in pop culture history would have definitely made an impact on Beyoncé’s reputation as rumors began to spread about her involvement with the Illuminati. Composed together, the elements appear to create a scene of her supporting and promoting the organization. With some more editing to the texture of the added elements, this would have been all over the media and pop culture magazines as a huge moment in time.
