"Jedi Training" Night Prowler -Emily Furr

For this projec,t my mind immediately went to Starwars and lightsabers. I asked my friend Haelle to be my model and to bring her lightsaber to downtown Kannapolis. From there I had her move about the frame and do the few tricks she knew. From time to time she would change the color of her saber.
Most of my exposure times were about 1" so I could capture the light movement. I had my meld stand as still as possible while she did her tricks so she would be sharper than the saber light.

There are several people in this work, all carrying lightsabers and they appear to be showing off the tricks with them. There are a lot of cool tones with this work when it comes to color as well as warmer colors as well just not as much. Proportion is great, it’s a tad off centered but the aspect ratio and the proportion of the photo are great. Environment is outside what looks like the charlotte campus at night.
When I first saw this photo, my mind immediately went to star wars so I am glad to see it has to do with that. What I interpreted from this was trying to get the lightsaber tricks down, my sister is a huge star wars fan and she has been trying to get the Anakin lightsaber spin down forever so that was what I thought of seeing this photo. I don’t know much about star wars (I’m a Harry Potter nerd, my sister is a Star Wars nerd) but I know enough that I can see that it has to do with star wars and considering lightsabers are a huge part of the franchise.
Evaluating this, I think the overall concept is really well done and was executed firmly. I really like how all the lightsaber colors were included, and how the peach color is the center which I believe is Rey's lightsaber color and it’s not one you see throughout the film so having that as a singular object while there's multiple of the other ones is a great touch. I would have loved to see more of the green since the blue kind of takes over the photo and green and blue are the most common colors. I think lighting wise and using it in the dark was done very well, I really like how cut and clean the light goes against the dark and how vibrant the colors are. I also think the compositing was well done also, and how everything is together but you can tell they are their own separate object. The subjects are a bit off center. I think scooching it over to the left a tad would be beneficial and emphasize the photo more.
Given that many people know about star wars and lightsabers, I think it was a great idea to use for this project. Lightsabers are super vibrant with their colors and they are always in motion when a jedi is in combat so I think showing the motion of the lightsabers with long exposure at night really emphasizes that. When I look at this picture I think about Anakin Skywalker because he always did his fancy tricks with his lightsaber so this could very much be an Anakin style photo. Again I don’t know much about Star Wars so I’m not sure if everyone does the fancy tricks or if it’s just Anakin.
Overall, I think this project was very well done and I think Star Wars fans will really appreciate it. I'll show my sister when I get home. The familiarity with the color of the lights really makes you think of the film so I think that was a good touch. The vibrancy of the colors really exaggerates the photo and brings emphasis on the use of lightsabers. This was a great piece and I think the concept is awesome so a job well done.
