"Pure Goddess" Jazmine Chance

Transformative Project- Pure Goddess

When it came to this project, I wanted to capture the pure essence of what defines someone for who they really are and what is a drive for their everyday life. The idea was to capture the spiritual embodiment of a higher self-being that fell into their belief in Christianity. The subject I used was very high-spirited and used Christianity as a way to give herself a higher standard of life. I wanted to visually give the viewer a peak of what makes my subject who she is. The color of white from the wings, the dress, and the flowers not only expresses the innocence behind the color but also the power behind it.

For the subject, I used my sorority sister along with her personality to get this concept. For the flowers I took a picture of a tree during the day right outside on campus, and for the background, wings, and crown I used free-to-use images for the portrait.

  1. The artwork depicts a girl wearing a white flowery dress. Through animation, the top of her head opens on a hinge, and another photo of her emerges, this time with moving angel wings. As she flies out of her own head a goddess, a white tree appears behind the main subject. The overall texture is rustic and natural.

The image symbolizes the subject's spiritual journey and her connection to Christianity. The opening of her head and the emergence of another version of herself with angel wings represent her transcendence to a higher self-being rooted in her faith. The use of white color in the wings, dress, and flowers signifies innocence and spiritual purity. The subject's personality, portrayed through her high-spirited nature and her dedication to Christianity, defines her emotionally and psychologically. The portrait is aspirational, reflecting the subject's desire for a higher standard of life through her faith.

The visual cues provided in the artwork effectively convey the intended message of the subject's spiritual journey and personality. The portrait works well as it captures the essence of the individual and presents a transformative interpretation through the symbolism of the moving elements and the overall composition.

The moving elements, such as the opening of the subject's head and the emergence of the angel-winged version of herself, deepen our understanding of the work by visually representing her spiritual transformation. The motion suggests a dynamic progression, enhancing the portrayal of the subject's journey towards her higher self-being.

This work exists within our larger culture as a representation of spirituality and self-discovery through faith. It explores themes of identity, transformation, and aspiration, which are relevant and resonate with audiences who may also be on similar journeys of self-discovery and spiritual growth. The image was shared with an audience to evoke contemplation and reflection on the significance of faith and personal transformation in one's life.

By sharing this image with an audience, the artist invites viewers to ponder the complexities of identity and spirituality. It prompts contemplation on the role of faith in shaping one's sense of self and purpose, as well as the transformative power of belief. Additionally, the animated elements and the visual spectacle of the artwork capture attention and invite deeper engagement, encouraging viewers to explore the layers of symbolism and meaning embedded within the composition. In this way, the artwork becomes not only a reflection of the individual subject but also a mirror through which viewers can contemplate their own spiritual journeys and aspirations.
