Under the Influence

Mani Singh

Subjects

Mani’s subjects are typically animals, sometimes people doing an activity, or an action of a natural event. Oftentimes these subjects are scaled up for a more dramatic effect. Usually it features a super-natural type of phenomenon. Such as stingrays flying in the clouds as a person is watching them from their tent.

Elements

Mani uses of dramatic lighting and color in all of his compositions to emphasis the surrealism and to add emphasis to the subject of the image. He plays with warm and cool colors in the majority of his compositions to create more contrast. He also always chose these sublime landscapes to pair alongside his supernatural sized subjects. He creates a lot of space in his compositions by using depth. In this particular example he uses lines to create movement diagonally across the composition.

Concepts

Mani strives to create a larger than life scenarios and supernatural events. He does this mostly by playing with the scale of his subjects. Sometimes he includes a person which almost puts our exist into a smaller perspective. In doing so Mani creates a dream like narrative using surrealism. Much of his works are unexpected and make the viewer feel like they are there experiencing this event for themselves.
