For my assignment I tried to find a strong contrast between my subject and the background. I wanted to have a distorted subject, as if he was being electrocuted. I took a few different takes, from different locations to get the final result.
One work I find especially noteworthy is Jackson Wells’ Night Prowler. This composition is both captivating and unsettling, skillfully bringing the central figure to life through the dramatic use of light. The figure appears trapped, and the juxtaposition of the “Good Vibes” neon sign in the background heightens the tension, making the piece even more compelling. The color palette is strikingly cohesive, and the use of shadows adds depth and dimension, allowing the figure to stand out. The lighting seems to have been created with a real neon source and then enhanced using Photoshop brushes, producing a vivid glow. Additionally, the long exposure effect on the subject’s face creates a subtle blur, contributing to an eerie, dreamlike quality that reinforces the haunting atmosphere of the work. Great job Jackson!
Jackson’s work I think followed the assignment to the T, really honing in on that long exposure concept. Yes, it’s “simple” but sometimes you don’t need a lot of fancy edits and additions to make something work. And this works. The high contrast and usage of stark blues and purples really made this work pop. Even the figure looks like it’s stuck in this long exposure!
