Under The Influence - Chris Allard

  1. Each of these three artworks have a certain warm color palette while also using a realistic, yet vectorized tone through each image. The first two artworks seem very similar in terms of using specific leg limbs, with a foreground, and a night sky to add to it while still maintaining a good level of differentiation for these. The third image however is completely different from using limbs yet still uses similar ideas with human body proportions and adding geometrical shapes around each of them as well. Each image is at the same time yet brought in different settings whether in a hot, cold, or warm area. The last thing that is similar is that there is one small figure in the first two images but not in the third image.
It is a little difficult to interpret what each image is supposed to be about whether it is meant to be a story, or perhaps reveal to us a meaning for each of these images possibly happening in the same certain time. The first image seems to depict a statue that has been destroyed possibly because of the climate weather. The second image seems to show a giant leg possibly going down towards the figure since the positioning of the foot seems to reveal that it is about to take a step onto the cold ground. The last image is set in a warm farm area where a giant skull seems to be surrounded by a saturn type of ring, and meteors going down.
The three images have interpreted many different unique ideas to give the viewers the imagination of what each of these could mean in terms of interpretation. While it doesn’t give a specific meaning as to what the story is, it could be the artist's intention to let the audience decide with each of these surrealistic and landscapes just as how the artist he wrote on has done in the past. In terms of photoshop usage, the first and third artworks have some issues with the lighting where the statue’s legs do not have much shadow on the bottom, the hair on the statue seems to realistic, and the third images landscape does not appear too geometrical as to what the artist is intending to add onto each image. Other than these specific parts, everything else looks incredibly unique in terms of photography and design. While many of the photographs are similar in sharpness, it feels that it too was the artist's intention to keep everything at a sharp level. Each photograph was used very well with each design, hierarchy, and positioning of them.
From a specific point of view, each of these artworks could be theorized as a way to show a specific end times imagery. A few ways to tell are the broken statue which could mean the end of idolization, the giant leg possibly being the leg of god coming down onto earth, and the giant skull possibly representing death whereas the stars start to fall down onto the landscape. Many of these ideas seem to possibly represent the artist's version of how the biblical apocalypse is represented through means of a geometrical and surrealist standpoint.
Out of all of these three artworks, the best one has to be the second one since the artwork works well in terms of using mostly primary colors with the leg, the figure, and the foreground, while also using geometric shapes to surround the leg and become centered in the artwork itself. The artwork doesn’t use any light source around the artwork which is better to have so that the illusion of light doesn’t give the audience any confusion as to why some of the light or shadow positions are a little inaccurate like the first or third image. The first image may be my least favorite due to some positions of light not being more accurate, yet despite the need for improvement on positioning of light and shadows, each of these artworks still hold up the surrealist look.
