Henry Flores Blog Post
Henry Flores’ art is characterized by beautiful colors, beautiful imagery, and a mix of materials that provide natural and abstract themes. Flores often breaks down the images of his subjects into creative images that blend well with patterns and textures in his works such as “Acid Jazz” and “Impossible Nothing” and develops them from realistic colors and beautiful imagery. Using Adobe Photoshop, Flores skillfully layers and layers this material, giving him unique works that are both vibrant and sophisticated. Each piece has a dreamy appearance that draws the viewer in because of its color and organic structure, conveying the depth of thought of its content.
Flores’ close-up portraits are stunning and delight the viewer with his attention to detail when interpreting the design expression. As an example, in a shoe ad, he described a sneaker with natural, synthetic elements, and expressed his desire to create more than just the look of the shoe by using only the materials and distributed layers. When looking through his work you get a feel of imagery expressing different patterns, and elements that come together to make a decoration of abstract vibrant colors as well as layers of floral patterns or even traditional cuts, emphasizing the emotion and power behind the beautifully constructed design. The way he incorporates the details in these scenes is subtle yet effective, allowing the overall theme to emerge without detracting from the drama of the picture.
In my own work, I aim to create a statement, a positive perspective, by combining beautiful images with fun, beautiful colors, inspired by Flores' surrealist approach. For this project, I plan to include elements that reflect Flores' presentation style, such as gradients, filtered animal or plant images, and textures. I plan to use this approach and combination, perhaps with notes, to express the same emotional response as in the sneaker ad. By combining elements of my clothing, such as the Balenciaga-Adidas clothing or my Nike mask, I hope to create a strong narrative that connects self-expression to the surrealism that Flores represents.
