I took an original photograph of the BELK GYM and stacked its ribbed concrete tiers into a taller, heavier structure. Piled up this way, the building stops being a place where weights are lifted and becomes the weight itself: a giant stack of plates with the antenna rising through the middle like the pin on a weight machine. The ordinary campus around it stays untouched, so the contrast between a normal day and the load being carried inside feels heavier. The image is about progressive overload, the idea that strength comes from constantly adding more, and it asks whether that pressure, in the gym and in college life, makes us stronger or just heavier.
