My concept for this project stemmed from the personal place of having moved so much from place to place, seeing different environments, and that the only consistency is the windows that frame that environment. I set out to combine three distinct settings being the apartment of the door/window, the cityscape outside, and the nature in the form of the water inside. I wanted this to invoke the feeling of how the same windows frame entirely different spaces even in how each window captures the same city at two different times in the day with the reflection being a third.

Noelle's Architectural Blend is primarily centered and depicts a window displaying two different city skylines at different times of day, with the reflection of the light being a third time of day. The main environment seems to be a living area or bedroom with the window organized generally within the middle half of the image. The floor has also been replaced with water, and a duck is present swimming to the right.
ReplyDeleteAbsent of the description, the image seems very dreamlike, and the nature of the floor being of water lends to that. Personally, I didn't immediately understand that it was about the experience of moving place to place, likely because the skylines look like they could be from the same place. The major difference is the lighting of the sky, and they are organized horizontally similar, which is why they look like the same skyline. According to Dream Dictionary, ducks symbolize rebirth, transition and transformation, which would relate back to the concept behind the image. Though, I wonder what other symbols could have been used to allude to that further.
In terms of technicality, the blending of architecture and objects is very clean and there is no noticeable mistakes or mishaps. As per the assignment, I was expecting there to be more building facades or elements from other buildings, but I feel the concept presented that would be difficult to manage; I think the simplicity is part of the presentation. To possibly push it further, I'm curious how it would look like if there were an additional square window on either side of the doors showcasing more scenes with different lightings as well.
I believe the reason Noelle is sharing this with an audience is a way of processing a past of changing locations and by purposefully choosing a warm dark color palette to create a nostalgic feeling in the viewer. The concept may get lost without the text explanation, but the surreal or dreamy feeling still comes across regardless. With the suggestion of nostalgia, I feel like the artist looks back on this time of their life with somewhat of a melancholic lens, but may remember some parts of it fondly, given the warm coloring.
Ultimately, Noelle's blend combines a windowed door with different skylines and worm dark colors with a watery floor to create a surreal environment to describe their experience with moving a lot. There is a sense of nostalgia with a dream-like quality, and the work is cleanly blended to result in an image describing this time of the artist's life.
