Creativity Lives in the Artist- Destiny James

For this transformative portrait, my concept revolves around me as a painter and the creativity I use to create my works. As artists we share the roles of adding creativity to the world. I often say that without artists,  the world would be like a black and white movie. Creatives add color and expression to the world. I used videos of me paintings as my motion layer and made the portrait black& white to help emphasize me being the artist full of creativity.

  1. When looking at the work the portrait is monochromatic where she is positioned withing what looks to be in an art studio taking a break from a painting. The motion then is color that is blended within her.
I think the work goes into the idea of creativity with the use of colors where black and white is seen as bland compared to colors that pop out are seen as expressive. I think since its monochromatic it already puts emphasis on a darker or serious mood and since there is no smile within the subject. Without the color motion it would look like it came from the past
As a portrait it works fairly well where it seems like a generic portrait where the figure is positioned mainly in the center of focus. The background works slightly in the sense of it being a art studio, I think that being able to emphasis the background more would work more to be able to convey the idea of creativity like maybe add some more art materials. Or a different angle for the shot.
I think that the motion comes across vaguely where it doesn’t put enough emphasis on the creativity part because the colors within the motion are seen as immersive colors that pop. Or maybe add more emphasis on the gesture of the painting stroke which is what I would assume is happening within the motion.
I think in larger context this is a great concept and I think is expressed throughout society in being able to show one’s creative side throughout the world. Especially as an artist it’s easy to put ourselves in that position where we want to share out creation in a world that doesn’t always seem like it has that creativity in it.
Overall great work and concept. I think it could be a bit more thought out and put more emphasis on the idea of creativity/motion.
