Video Portrait- Rocky

 Tennis Rockstar

For this project, I decided to do myself as a tennis rockstar. I've always wanted to be good at tennis and imagined myself being good and the idea of putting myself in the spotlight where there is attention is on me. The idea of how we all imagine things that we wish we were good at. Also a play on words/activities.

  1. Rocky's work is of himself performing on a stage in front of a crowd of people with their phones out. He is strumming on a tennis racket as tennis balls fall and bounce out of frame. There is also smoke and a cage behind him on the stage.
This work shows a kind of whimsical personality of the artist. Combining a musical performance with a completely unrelated sport but not in a way one would initially think of.
This image overall is pretty good, the composition itself is interesting. What could be worked on a bit though is the lighting, there seems to be a massive difference in lighting on many different parts of the image, from the crowd, to the balls, to the performer.
The motion itself points out the fact that he is not playing with a normal instrument but a tennis racket in case one didn't notice immediately.
This work points out a couple things when it comes to a live performance. One is the strange prevalence of recording a performance and focusing on that rather than the experience of being there. Second, how often there are balls being thrown in live performances, which I personally never understood.
This piece is whimsical and fun and overall a nice composition. It shows the humorous side of the artist. The lighting could use a bit of work but the message still gets across. The movement adds to the piece and it is easy to see everything in the image itself.
