The artist I’ve picked is Ahmed Wahabi. Wahabi is a digital artist who creates whimsical digital composites. The subject of his artwork usually includes colorful portraits, imaginative landscapes, and other works with a fantasy/sci-fi theme.
When observing Wahabi’s work the first thing I noticed was his attention to the lighting of the scene. He often incorporates colorful and dynamic lighting throughout his pieces. In one of his process videos he very meticulously added highlights with a very small brush to create the desired lighting on a person. He also likes to use bright neon colors throughout his work.
In the portraits, Wahabi creates settings that are all very fantastical and imaginative. This includes things like pirate ships to castles with fire breathing dragons. He incorporates images of the night sky in many of the backgrounds of these pieces, as well. Wahabi often creates fanmade works of real life imaginings of cartoon and video game characters which lends him the creative freedom to create the same imaginative worlds they inhabit as well.
Wahabi’s artwork all seem to have a movie poster like quality to it. Everything is very sharp with saturated colors with lots of attention to lighting. Wahabi also incorporates an interesting depth of field in his work to really sell the realness of his digital composites. I hope to be able to study more of his work and be able to incorporate some of his techniques into my own work.
