Video Self Portrait - Sena

My procrastination gets the best of me. Sometimes all I can think about is TV and video games. It feels good while procrastinating but after several hours, I feel awful both physically and mentally for not doing anything. I want to create something that represents me mindlessly always thinking about TV and/or video games to the point I basically become a monitors screen.

  1. In the piece, the viewer sees a television screen morphed on top of a body. You can see the moving layers being the screen, and the fog moving in. The tv screen seems to glitch and cuts through an array of different channels and images. The background lighting is focusing on the body and television, and keeps the viewers attention to the screen. The darkness around the border encloses the space, in a positive way.
The concept of this piece from my perspective is having the tv screen as a head symbolizes how involved we are in today's technology. Whether that be spending all our time in our phones, or watching tv. I would even say it consumes our lives being in the techno world we live in today. I like how you went about this self portrait, because even though you dont see your face, as the channels turn, the viewer sees shows or games that you yourself enjoy. Aside from the portraiture, your concept also has a clear and direct meaning. As a viewer of this piece, I feel like the concept also alludes to a negative physical and mental outcome of being too consumed in watching tv or being on your phone.
For myself, I really enjoyed this piece. The concept is clear, and I think this piece works well with the transformative project concept. As mentioned above, I would even say this is a self portrait, because the channels show your interests in relation to yourself.
The movements work well with your concept and really helps carry the meaning of this piece. Without the screen change and movements, I think this could be looked at differently, if you would've kept an empty screen. I think the fog is a nice touch, and I like how it is the same color as the shadowed border. The fog and border helps add dimension.
Being a viewer of this piece, I theorize what you want the audience to think and feel about how our lives are affected by technology, both in a positive and negative way. The positive being its a nice pass time watching tv and forgetting about our tasks that need to be done, and the negative being, sometimes being too consumed in it eats away at our lives.
This portrait displays a clear and concise meaning, showing you having a tv screen instead of a head. This piece helps represents the idea of being too consumed in technology, and spending all of our time on it. I really enjoyed this piece and how you incorporated the transformative aspect with a self portrait.
