Glowing Mailbox

I was experimenting with creating outlines for things that usually blend into the dark night background. I used a color changing moon lamp to outline my mailbox

Rocky- Night Prowler

October Nights
For this project, I wasn't quite sure what to do but I thought it would be cool to incorporate the picture I took during the harvest moon and the light garden (not sure what it's called). This is the first time I've practiced taking pictures during the night. Kinda goes with the October theme with the moon and then sort of breast cancer awareness with purple/pink color and homecoming, unfortunately no beer...

Neon Night, Destiny James

 Neon Night

For this Night Prowler assignment, I settled on the idea of capturing the lights in my room. At night they completely transform my room into a new space vs the daylight setting. It provides a chill, fun ambience so I decided to capture the multiple directions of radiating light. My neon light over my bed is the focal point with led strip lights behind my bed that bring more colors. To the far right is my easel and  over head light that also contributes to the "creating at night" ambiance. My technique consists of multiple layered long exposure images that I wanted to blend together but also show the distinction between each new setting.

For my project I wanted to go a different route and try to create something more composited, and conceptual. I created the dress portion using blue glow sticks for my long exposures, and took roughly 15 different images at night in my living room. When starting my project and capturing images, I wasn't planning on making a dress like image, or a recognizable figure, but after reviewing how the light trails turned out, I saw how I could create this dress form. I did this by, removing the darkness around the light trails, so you could only see the light form in my finished image. Also the background is a mix of a image I took of the night sky and an image from NASA over laid on top.

For this project, I wanted to focus on something a little more realistic but still a little magical. I worked with a couple flashlights, sparklers, and candles to try to create a little flame sprite taking a rest in a candle, something kinda like Navi from Ocarina of Time. I took multiple images and layered them over each other to allow for a bit more detail to be shown in the image as well as set the flame into the candle and adjust it a little bit so it looked a bit more sprite-like.

I never visited campus nor the city at night, and when I did, it was very pretty. This project was a great way for me to explore places I wouldn't think of. When I saw the lights on campus and uptown Charlotte, I was in awe. Even with my siblings accompanying me for both nights, it was cold, dark, and a little scary; however, the lights were wonderful. It's like magic, mysterious but beautiful, which was kind of my experience, so I decided to composite this piece to reflect that.

Evie Khang - Night Prowler

For my project I based my concept on the idea of the constant stream of flowing information in the digital age. We're bombarded with new information--good and bad-- every second of our lives in the digital age, and after a while you feel quite numb to all of it. I wanted this piece to convey that sense of mindlessness and monotony we feel as we try to navigate this busy world.

Wish Upon A Star Tiana Cohen

My concept was to make a wish upon a star, or in this case, a comet. The reason it takes place at uncc is because it's supposed to reflect my wish of finally graduating and taking the next step in my journey. Additionally, I wanted to get an image of the green and gold lights that were hung up outside of student union and incoporate it into the composition.

Talking to the Moon- Shyana Marvelle

For this nighttime-based project, I wanted to show my favorite view at the end of every day: watching the sunset on my patio. However, I wanted my window to be the viewpoint to bring attention to this activity all while being in my safe space. Recently, I moved from the city, so these sunsets look a lot different. The sky looks bigger and it makes you wonder what's out there. The inclusion of the buildings and other windows is my take on how the world is so large in the sense that all of the people in these buildings are living different lives. When pondering these thoughts, I feel so small. I used an image of a "Super Moon", which is a moon that radiates so much light because of its increase in size and how much closer it is to us. The light peers through the window combining the two spaces.

 Illegal Lights

Pictures were taken at Myrtle Beach and layered on top of each other.

The Wonders of Space and Light, Avery Wallace

For this nighttime project, I decided to use nighttime images by focusing on how long the shutter had to be closed depending on how much light I could get. I also experimented with a few lights I bought recently by spinning them around in different forms and directions. My brother had the idea of wanting to do different poses for these photos and since the photos make him look mysterious, I decided to go with that direction with this image to add some "wonders" with this particular image.

Chris Allard Night Prowler

For this Project, I used hdr merge to combine several nighttime shots from my dorm window, I then added several pictures from Nasa in order to give a "spacey" feel to it and create a scene of an astronaut on earth. I wanted to achieve a dreamlike presentation for the image, playing off the ideas of gazing out your window and looking at the stars to imagine what might be beyond.

Kelsey McGoldrick- Sunsphere sunset

During my trip to Knoxville this past weekend I was able to take a picture of the Iconic Sunsphere. I took my first photo around 10:30 AM and then marked where I took the picture with a rock on the concrete. I came back to the spot almost exactly 12 hours later and took a picture in the exact spot in order to get the beautiful night lights. While visiting this city I was drawn to photographing this landmark because I have never seen such a unique structure.

Sami Pacitto Scale Exaggerated

Brooklyn Presnell- Scale Exaggeration

Kelsey McGoldrick- The Pumpkin Man

This image uses scale to produce a spooky or scary feeling to the viewer. I used proportion by shrinking myself down, almost looking like I am going to be squished by this pumpkin man. I played with lighting to also mimic the dark, orange-like shadows of fall. There should also be a feeling of being overwhelmed and scared, feeling very small. There are always going to be scary, more powerful people trying to bring you down in life, I really wanted to emulate that feeling.

Otto Lucas Scale Exaggeration

For this project, I wanted to do something with my cat Kerri. She's extremely emotive and so I collaged a bunch of photos that I've taken of her to make it look like she was a giant monster cat chasing through the forest. Originally, I wanted to make this look like a horror movie poster but as I was working, I started to fall in love with the way it looks.

Night of the Living Dead

For my scale exaggerated I decided to go with the nightmare theme and create my twist on night of the living dead. Except instead of zombies there's a skeleton, and the skeleton is giant. Originally, I planned on just having the skeleton and the trees but I felt the trees weren't a good enough indicator that the skeleton was large. To give off a feeling that the skeleton was large I inserted an image of myself falling over from the massive hand that comes out of the ground. Respecting the dead is important, but what will you do when the dead come back to the land of the living?

Evie Khang - Exaggerated Scale

For my piece I wanted to turn something cute into something scary/unnerving. So, here I created a composition of a giant, cute kirby plushie looming over my apartment building. I feel the juxtaposition of the two themes helps to create an interesting, yet shocking atmosphere.

Monday Blues -Destiny James

 Monday Blues

For this scale exaggerated project, I decided to reflect on the need of a " pick me up" on the days that are more challenging than others, typically Mondays. I like to have a hot caffeinated beverage in my favorite mug which visually represents my mood for the morning/ day. Not only does the mug represent my emotions, but it also resembles the feelings it would have if it had a mind of its own; tired and annoyed from being used on my grumpy days. I scaled myself down to reflect on my emotions for the day and slightly scaled my mug up to represent its importance. The Folger's coffee figuratively shows the need for help by something caffeinated to get me through the day.

Brooke Buchanan Scale Project

For my project, I wanted to work against the stereotypical blonde, pink barbie, and create an edgier doll displayed in a doll box. I took the head off a plastic doll, and replaced it with a picture of my head, and blended my neck line to the doll body. I decided to go with the green body because it looked visually better, than a regular skin tone, and really differentiated from the normal dolls. I took a picture of a plastic clear bag, and changed the opacity to look like it overlays on top of the doll. I submitted 2 images, one of a up close of the doll box, and another displayed on a shelf with other dolls. I feel like the second image helps emphasize scale more than the first, but wanted to include it too.

Scale Exaggerated - Sena

I love matcha green tea and I drink it every chance I have. Here I made my cup way larger than me as I try to "hold" it steady. In the image, I am both excited that I have so much matcha tea, but also scared that it will tip over and spill everything. For the composition, I placed the main focal point, me holding the cup, at the lower left side of image with consideration of the rule of thirds on a grid. With that in mind, the sky takes up one-third of the image vertically, providing some negative space as a whole.

Gone shopping? -Rocky

For the Scale Exaggerated project, I decided to have the roles reversed where instead of me shopping for the legos, the legos are shopping for me. I tried to make the scale more dynamic by taking the shots looking upward and creating a more scary tone with the darkness. Also making the Minifigure much bigger than a normal human that would walk through the doors and made myself smaller.

Shyana- Scale Exaggerated

I wanted my scale-exaggerated project to revolve around the nightmare theme. I have set up an altar and brewing station as if someone was making a toxic concoction. I wanted to make it appear as if someone was sitting in it leisurely. This brings on the idea that we can be controlled to do things that aren't necessarily safe for us or we put ourselves in situations that can be dangerous after the thought. What appears to be a soothing soak is actually something a lot scarier. Skulls float to the surface as the girl appears to be relaxing for the time being. Surrounding the drink, one can find potion bottles and spell books.

The Giant Pumpkin - Avery Wallace

For this project, I decided to focus on a hobby that my brother has been doing for the past couple of years which is growing different plants, including pumpkins. Since it is that time of year when the fall season is at its peak, I thought of giving an idea where he would be growing the biggest pumpkin in the country. I also thought of adding a giant garden spider that would be messing around with the pumpkin while my good friend, Joel, comes in with a giant knife to not only kill the giant spider, but to also carve the giant pumpkin. While pumpkins might be a great for harvesting and carving, they can also bring in deadly creatures that will want to have pumpkins, and other crops for themselves.
